Punta Cana International Airport

The Airport

Punta Cana International Airport is the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic and the second busiest in the Caribbean. Located on the country's eastern coast, it is easily accessible to some of the best beaches in the area.

The airport was designed by Oscar Imbert and features open-sided terminals with a thatched roof to reflect local outdoor living traditions. It has two main terminals with amenities such as baggage claim and currency exchange, as well as a food court with international dining options and Duty-Free Americas for shopping.

Which Airlines are flying to Punta Cana

Many major North American airlines, including Delta, United, American, Southwest, JetBlue, Spirit, and Air Canada, fly to Punta Cana from major cities such as New York, Atlanta, Washington, and Toronto. Other international airlines, including Copa, Avianca, Gol, LATAM, Aerolíneas Argentinas, British Airways, TUI, Air France, Eurowings, and Air Europa, also offer flights to Punta Cana.

Getting your bags after arriving in Punta Cana

When retrieving your bags, follow the signs to the baggage claim area of your terminal and collect your luggage from the conveyor belt. If you have any issues with your luggage, you can visit the lost and found office in the terminal. To make your travel experience even smoother, it is recommended to arrive at the airport at least two hours before your flight and to check with your airline for any updates or changes.

Two Airport Terminals

After arriving at Punta Cana Airport, you will land in either Terminal A or Terminal B. If you have checked luggage, you can collect it from the baggage claim area located in each terminal. You can also find foreign exchange kiosks, ATMs, taxis, car rental desks, and bathrooms in these areas. If you need help navigating the airport, you can refer to the map provided on the airport's website. As you exit the baggage claim, you may be greeted by a live band playing tropical music to set the mood for your vacation.

Masks, hand sanitizing, and social distancing are recommended, but not required at Punta Cana Airport. Currently, there is no requirement for a PCR test or proof of vaccination upon arrival. However, all travelers must still fill out a COVID Traveller's Health Affidavit as part of the e-ticket process, which confirms that they do not have coronavirus symptoms and are willing to share their contact information.

Transportation from and to Punta Cana International Airport

There are several options for transportation from Punta Cana Airport to your hotel. You can pre-book roundtrip transportation with Punta Cana Adventures by entering your flight information on their Airport Transfers page. Alternatively, you can rent a car directly at the airport from companies such as Hertz, Avis, Dollar, Budget, and Europcar. If you prefer not to rent a vehicle, you can arrange a taxi or use the shuttle service provided by some hotels, such as the free transfer offered by the Four Points by Sheraton Puntacana Village. If your hotel does not offer shuttle service, it is recommended to book your airport transportation in advance to ensure everything is arranged before your arrival. Remember that taxi rates are fixed, but you should check the updated price list upon arrival as rates may change. Keep in mind that taxis charge a one-time fee that is higher than a roundtrip transfer.
